The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

Dear Parents - I hope your children have shared with you that my read a-loud in the afternoons has been The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. This book is on a Third to Sixth Grade level. It is a story of a china rabbit named Edward Tulane. The rabbit is very pleased with himself and for good reason - he was once owned by a girl named Ablilene, who treated him with the utmost care and adored him completely. And then, one day, he was lost.

The author, Kate DiCamillo, tells a story that really pulls at the heartstrings! I am using the book to practice higher level thinking skills and inference as well as just life lessons. The kids are "knee deep" and cannot wait to hear what will happen to Edward next! We have been talking about making predictions as well.

I hope you will talk to your children about this story. Let them "retell" it to you over the weekend. It is good practice for them. I should finish it up today!

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Ryan
